How We Tested

For HumanizeMyAI, the figures in this comparison come from a 31 August 2026 cross-evaluation on a real student essay drawn from our published 2,590-essay corpus, rather than the generic AI filler most reviews paste in. That genre choice matters: an academic essay is what students actually submit, and detectors behave differently on it than on a marketing paragraph. We ran the humanized output through six detectors, GPTZero, Turnitin, Originality AI, Copyleaks, QuillBot’s AI Detector, and ZeroGPT, and recorded whatever each one gave back. The AI score is simply the percentage a detector assigns to how machine-written it thinks a text is; lower is better for a human-sounding result. Two of the six do not print a percentage at the clean end of their scale: Turnitin withholds a score entirely below 20%, and Originality AI’s free tier shows a human band rather than a point estimate, so those cells carry the verdict rather than a figure and stay out of the average. For Humbot, the honest position is the one this comparison holds throughout: we have not completed our own controlled test of Humbot under matched conditions this month. That measurement is in progress. Until it is finished, we will not print a Humbot AI score of our own, because a number we have not taken under controlled conditions is not a number you should trust. What we can do is report what independent reviewers have already published, clearly attributed, and that is what the next section does.

Humbot Detection Results Across Detectors

Humbot AI’s detection record, as reported by independent reviewers rather than by us, is a range, not a single number, and the honest way to read it is as a range. Across multiple third-party tests, Humbot’s humanized output has been flagged anywhere from roughly 45% to 76% AI depending on the detector and the specific run. Originality AI’s own review of Humbot, published October 2025, concluded the tool “does not humanize AI text, it merely runs every third or fourth word through a thesaurus.” In that test the humanized output still scored 100% AI on Originality AI, 98% on GPTZero, and 100% on Copyleaks, essentially unchanged from the original draft. Other reviewers reported a higher average bypass rate, which is exactly why the figure is best stated as a band.

Why the result is a range, not a number

The reason Humbot’s number swings is worth understanding, because it explains a frustration many users report. Paraphraser-class output is probabilistic: the same input text, humanized twice, can come back with different word choices and therefore different detector scores. One independent review documented Originality AI readings swinging from 55% to 100% AI on repeat runs of the same content. Turnitin specifically

Read that table for exactly what it is. Those are our own controlled measurements, taken 31 August 2026. We have not yet run Humbot through the same six-detector protocol ourselves. This page used to report a 45-76% AI band attributed to “independent reviewers” without naming one, and we could not trace it; it also sat oddly against the one test we can open, which found roughly 100%. Free Tier Comparison: Humbot vs HumanizeMyAI

The free tiers are where the two tools differ most concretely, and no other Humbot review puts them side by side, so here is the direct head-to-head. Humbot’s free plan is tight, and the vendor is specific about how tight: humbot.ai lists it in July 2026 at 200 words a month with a 100-word ceiling on any single submission. Reviews circulating a 600-word figure are quoting something the site no longer shows. The free plan also requires creating an account, and 200 words is a long paragraph, not an essay, so the paywall arrives during your first real attempt rather than after it.

Word limit per request

The per-request cap is the part that bites first. Humbot’s free tier limits a single submission to 100 words, which means a 600-word essay has to be pasted in six separate chunks and the 200-word monthly budget runs dry on the second one, before the opening paragraph is even finished. HumanizeMyAI’s free tier gives you 250 words per run across four runs, so a full paragraph goes in whole instead of in chunks, and the account that unlocks them wants an email rather than a card. Humbot Pricing Breakdown 2026

Humbot AI runs three individual plans, and reviewers have published enough conflicting figures about them that the numbers below are worth reading against the vendor directly. As listed on humbot.ai in July 2026: Basic is $11.99 a month for 3,000 basic words plus 1,000 advanced words, with a 500-word ceiling per submission; Pro is $22.99 a month for 30,000 basic and 5,000 advanced words, lifting the submission ceiling to 1,200 words; and Unlimited is $59.99 a month for uncapped basic words, 10,000 advanced words, and no ceiling per submission. Annual billing drops Basic to $95.88 and Pro to $119.88 for the year. Note the two-currency structure inside each plan: the basic and advanced word pools are separate, and the advanced pool is the smaller one, which is the detail most reviews leave out.

A separate developer API is priced by volume rather than by tier, starting at $49 a month for 50,000 words and climbing to $1,999 a month for ten million. Annual commitment brings the entry rate down to $360 for the year. That path is relevant only if you are embedding humanization into a product of your own.

Per-word cost

For volume buyers, the useful frame is cost per thousand words. Run the July 2026 rates through that lens and Basic works out to $4.00 per 1,000 basic words while Pro lands at roughly $0.77, because the step up bundles ten times the allowance for less than twice the price. What synonym substitution actually does

Swapping synonyms changes the surface words but leaves the underlying statistical shape of the sentence largely intact, and that shape is exactly what modern detectors read. A classifier looking at predictability and sentence-to-sentence variation sees a thesaurus pass for what it is, which is why paraphraser-class output is caught at high rates and why the same text scores differently on repeat runs. The substitution is essentially a coin flip applied word by word, so the result is a probability, not a guarantee.

False Positives and ESL Writers

For non-native English writers, the detector question is not only whether my humanized text will pass but whether my own authentic writing will be wrongly flagged, and that reframes the whole comparison. A false positive is human writing that a detector labels as AI, and ESL writers face this risk more than anyone, because the simpler, more regular phrasing common in second-language writing can look, to a perplexity-based detector, like machine text.

This is not speculation. The Stanford 2023 study (arXiv:2304.02819) found that GPT detectors of that era flagged real TOEFL essays by non-native speakers as AI more than half the time. That finding is why a humanizer’s training data matters for this group specifically: a tool that learned from real student writing, including non-native-register prose, is less likely to flatten your authentic voice into something a detector misreads than one that only knows synonym swaps.
